The Prophecy Decorations Committee is holding a “Sleeping Wizard Portrait Contest.” This is your chance to showcase your artwork and even win prizes! As the title of the contest suggests, you are invited to draw, sketch, or paint a sleeping wizard – much like the portraits of former headmasters that adorn the walls of Dumbledore’s office!

Artists may choose to reclaim their artwork at the end of the event or donate it to HPEF. When submitting your work, please indicate if the piece will be reclaimed or will be donated.

Eligibility
  • Anyone may enter, regardless of whether or not you are registered for Prophecy 2007.
  • Members of the Prophecy Decorations Committee and Judges Panel may submit artwork, BUT will not be eligible for prizes.
  • All artwork must be G or PG.
  • HPEF will not reimburse shipping costs. Submissions may be picked up in Sheraton Hall F on the morning of Sunday, August 5.

Artwork Size

  • Must be at least 13 in. x 15 in. (or 33cm x 38cm). Since artwork will be displayed in one of the Programming Rooms, larger pieces will be more visible. Size will not necessarily be a factor in determining the winner.

Medium

  • Entrants may use charcoal, oil, acrylic, watercolor, color pencils, or digitally generated graphics.
  • f you have any other medium in mind, please contact Kat for approval at deathlyhallows @ cox dot net All submissions must be able to stand on an easel. Entrants may want to attach their work to a board or frame if not using a canvas.

Prizes
  •  First Place: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Motion Pictures Soundtrack
  • Second Place: Time-Turner (complete with Harry Potter stickers)

See the "Owl & Orb" June Issue for images of the prizes (please note that the CD cover shown in the image is not the official cover design). See link below.

Submission Deadline

  • All entries must be in either a .pdf (preferred) and .doc format (to obtain the forms, go to Orb and Owl June Issue, and scroll all the way down to The Chatty Canvas: Art and Gallery News. Email the art along with your name, address, phone number, and email address to deathlyhallows @ cox dot net .

Fandom Chess is here!!

Ever wanted your name or face all over a HUGE game of chess? Want to promote your website, or give a shout out to your favorite fanfic writer? How about be the selfless human being you're always trying to be and donate to a great charity? Well here is your chance to do just that!

In this life-size game of fandom chess, Prophecy puts a new twist on an old fan favourite. Groups bid to win a place for their logo on our giant chess board, and get the attention of hundreds of people in fandom throughout Prophecy — particularly during the Wizard Chess event, when the life-sized board will be used for game, after game, after game. It's like a star on the Walk of Fame of Prophecy!

One may ask, how in Merlin's name will this work?

The bid competition starts with a call to action from you to your group members. Raise money toward a Fandom Chess bid and submit it as a lump sum to Prophecy, along with the name of the programming session(s) or Prophecy event(s) you’d like to sponsor. Sponsorships will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis; contact the sponsorship team to discuss the wide variety of opportunities available.

Spaces on the chessboard are ranked in order of each piece’s value. There is a reserve of $500 US on the most valuable space (the King) and $50 US on the least valuable (the white spaces). All submissions will earn a place on the Fandom Chess board, if there is room; if not, the highest bids will receive places. The higher your bid, the more you’ll be able to sponsor, and the more valuable chess pieces that will represent your group on the board!

Gather your group members together and work out a bid! Submissions are due by June 10, 2007, but they may be added to and revised at any time up until that deadline. So, send your bid in early and set the stakes in this competition! All bids should be submitted to sponsorship@prophecy2007.org with “Fandom Chess Bid” in the subject line. Once we receive your bid, you’ll get updates on the standings as they change. You can also request to be added to the update list if you haven’t yet sent in your bid, by contacting sponsorship@prophecy2007.org.

READ MORE ABOUT IT HERE!

Time for submissions is drawing near, so get a move on already, and see you at Prophecy!

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them in response to this post as well!

The final clue to the Secret of the Sphinx Challenge can be found on our official Prophecy website at:

http://hp2007.org/indexx.html?page=about/orbandowl/2007-05-09&mode=owl

We are pleased to announced that the deadline for the Sphinx challenge has now been extended to noon (Eastern time) on June 5, 2007.

Don't miss your chance to qualify for a drawing for a free stay at the Sheraton during Prophecy! Remember - the winner will be chosen from all qualifying entries sent in by noon (Eastern time) on June 5th!

EDIT -- May 31st:
We'd like to thank those of you who have expressed their concern over this matter. We extended the deadline because many contestants were not aware of the final deadline when the May Orb & Owl did NOT reach them.

Given that the answers have been publicly published (which we did not consider, nor were aware of prior to our announcing this deadline extension), we will NOT be accepting any contest entries submitted AFTER the original deadline. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Thank you,
The Prophecy Team

Special Edition Orb & Owl: IMPORTANT: U.S./Canada Border Crossing Information [May. 25th, 2007|07:39 pm]
Prophecy 2007: From Hero to Legend

[Tags|]

Greetings all! Today we bring you a Special May Edition of Prophecy's newsletter, the Orb & Owl: Bringing you tomorrow's news today!

IMPORTANT: U.S./Canada Border Crossing Information

We want to share critically important information with Prophecy guests who are traveling between the U.S. and Canada. We urge all Prophecy guests who live in the U.S. to carefully read the following travel requirements in full. Especially if you are under the age of 18 and will be traveling between the U.S. and Canada without your parents, note that there is special additional documentation described below that you must provide when crossing the U.S.- Canadian border.

The following identification requirements apply to all Prophecy guests traveling between the U.S. and Canada:

  • Requirements for travel by air: A valid, current U.S. passport. As of January 23, 2007, no other proof of citizenship is acceptable when traveling by air between the U.S. and Canada.

  • Requirements for travel by land (i.e., by car, train, bus, and so forth): Photo identification, such as a current, valid driver's license AND proof of U.S. citizenship, such as your U.S. passport or certified copy of your birth certificate issued by the city, county or state in the U.S. where you were born. A driver's license, voter's registration card or Social Security card is NOT valid proof of citizenship. If used, a birth certificate must be certified and not a photocopy. For further help on obtaining a certified birth certificate, please visit here.

  • IMPORTANT: The following additional requirements apply to all Prophecy guests under the age of 18 traveling between the U.S. and Canada without a parent:

According to the U.S. State Department: "Due to international concern over child abduction, single parents, grandparents, or guardians traveling with children often need proof of custody or notarized letters from the other parent authorizing travel. (This is in addition to proof of citizenship as explained above.) Any person under the age of 18 and traveling alone should carry a letter from his/her parent or guardian authorizing the trip. Travelers without such documentation may experience delays at the port of entry."

A form letter to help provide the needed authorization mentioned above can be found here. This form letter will only be acceptable if it is completed in full and notarized. Note that this border crossing letter for minors is not the same as the parental permission form needed to gain entry to Prophecy. The permission form for attending Prophecy will not satisfy the government requirements for crossing the U.S.-Canadian border.

For complete information, please refer to the U.S. State Department's Tips for Travelers to Canada, which can be read in full at the official State Department website.

For any additional questions, please contact Prophecy Registration so that we can help direct you to the correct government information and requirements.
